A fluid approach to total-progeny-dependent birth-and-death processes

We introduce a class of branching processes in which the reproduction or lifetime distribution at given time depends on total cumulative number individuals who have been born population until that time. focus continuous-time version these processes, called total-progeny-dependent birth-and-death and study some their properties through analysis deterministic (fluid) approximation. These include maximum size, progeny size extinction, to reach extinction. As fluid approximation does not allow us determine extinction directly, we propose several methods complement this approach. also use approach behavior as increase magnitude individual’s birth rate.

We consider the numerical computation of stationary distributions for level dependent quasi-birth-and-death processes. An algorithm based on matrix continued fractions is presented and compared to standard solution techniques. Its computational efficiency and numerical stability is demonstrated by numerical examples.
